If you enjoy spending time in the sauna, it's time to try a different approach. It's time to try an infrared sauna. Infrared saunas don't rely on steam or flames. Infrared saunas use heat lamps to create the sauna effect. This makes infrared saunas more comfortable. Plus, they don't get as hot as traditional saunas. Here are some tips to help you get the most from your infrared sauna treatment

Go Easy on the Heat

If you're going to try an infrared sauna, don't try to start with the highest temperature settings. If you're used to spending time in traditional saunas, you might think you're safe starting on a higher setting. That's not the case though. You need to give your body time to adjust to the different heat you'll experience. That's why you should start on the lowest temperature setting, and then build up from there. 

Give Yourself Time to Adjust

Now that you're going to switch to an infrared sauna, be sure to start out slow on time as well. Like the temperature, you also need to adjust the time you spend in an infrared sauna. This is true if you've been enjoying saunas for years or if this will be your first experience in any type of sauna. Starting out with too much time on the clock can stress your body and lead to serious problems. To avoid those risks, start out with only a few minutes at a time. As your body adjusts, you can add time to the clock with each session. 

Replenish Your Fluids

When it comes to spending time in the sauna, you need to keep yourself well-hydrated. You'll lose a lot of fluids while you're in the sauna, whether you've chosen the traditional or the infrared style. Dehydration can make you sick, which is why you need to stay hydrated in the sauna. You can drink either plain water or sports drinks while you're in the sauna. But, be sure to avoid caffeinated beverages while you're in the sauna. Caffeine can act as a diuretic, which means you might need to urinate more. That can interfere with your enjoyment of the sauna. 

End With a Shower

If you're going to add infrared sauna treatments to your personal care routine, don't forget about the after-session. After an infrared sauna treatment, you might be in a hurry to get home. But, you want to give yourself time for a shower. An after-sauna shower helps you get rid of the toxins that have gotten flushed out with your sweat. The shower also helps to close your pores.
